When asking for the Basic Salary / OTE range, are you asking the right question? NO!
You’re not getting the full extent of the package and more importantly you’re not considering what you would consider from a total financial perspective to change jobs.
Financial remuneration is an important factor when changing jobs, for some it is the most important.
So, what question should you be asking?
Let’s look at why you’re selling yourself short by only wanting to know the basic salary and bonus.
Be clear in how you define reward. Is it just base salary? Is it salary, plus bonus? Is it salary, bonus and benefits? Is it all the above plus training offers and career prospects? Does it also include factors such as an inspiring working space and flexible working? It’s important to look at the total reward package and determine which factors are most important to you.

Not all organisations provide an expensive benefits package, however all organisations want to hire the best individuals. Therefore, to hire these individuals all organisations must offer the financial package to compensation the best individuals.
